deadline for submissions:

Many faculty and programs across a wide array of university and scholastic settings offer events that center, celebrate, or showcase student writing. These are truly diverse and have a real impact on student growth, learning, and knowledge transfer at all educational levels. Whether a showcase or a celebration, whether for first year writing students or built into grad student professionalization, whether modeled on an art expo or in the style of an academic conference, these opportunities for students to share their work are worth reflecting on and situating amid other pedagogical or writing goals. We ourselves hope to showcase a variety of perspectives on the pitfalls and opportunities such celebrations offer for students, faculty, and programs.

All photography takes place somewhere, but only some photography makes that place the focal point. From its conception, photographers have used the medium to document places, ranging from specific sites to regional and national landscapes, with the aim to educate, archive, preserve, and critique. Photographs of home and the local allow for reflections on belonging, community, and personal identity, whereas images taken elsewhere, perhaps in foreign lands, suggest an anthropological drive to capture (the essence of) the unfamiliar.

Eighteenth-century global history is a history of seas and oceans. International trade and migration stretched across all continents. Britain’s colonial empire, and the trades on which it thrived – not least the Slave Trade – was driven by its domination of the world’s waterways. The port city of Liverpool was a major gateway for Britain’s contact with the wider world through maritime routes. This complemented the complex network of domestic waterways – rivers, canals – which played a significant part in Britain’s industrial revolution.

updated:
Tuesday, March 18, 2025 - 8:22am
Sapienza University of Rome
deadline for submissions:
Friday, May 30, 2025

The interest in Slavic fairy tales and fables remains relatively marginal in international Fairy Tale Studies. Influential essays by Vladimir Propp on the Morphology of the Folktale (1928, English translation 1958, Italian translation 1966) and the Historical Roots of the Wondertale (1946, Italian translation 1949) encouraged international interest in Russian folk tales. However, they also contributed to the tendency to perceive these tales primarily as a manifestation of the oral or folkloric tradition—a perspective that prevails up to this day.
