This issue will engage the theme of the National Communication Association’s 109th Annual Convention on freedom. The convention’s call recognizes the relationship between human communication and freedom, inquiring into the meaning of freedom and the role of communication in achieving freedom. In response to this theme, the Journal of Dialogic Ethics invites essays that consider connections between and among freedom, dialogue, and ethics, with a special focus on interfaith and interhuman perspectives.

This is a second call for chapter manuscripts for the edited volume called “Human Rights and Indian Literary Communities”. 

 While most submissions are in, there is scope for more chapters ONLY in the areas given below.

 This collection undertakes various explorations about the role of literary (and related cultural) communities in the acknowledgement and understanding of human rights bearing subjects. Can literary texts highlight and empathise with those on the social margins as legal subjects possessing rights? Do texts also recognise and challenge the contours of human rights? Can literary communities help imagine and reimagine the outlines of those deemed human and therefore capable of being human rights bearing citizens?

It has been challenging to maintain healthy enrollments in Japanese language courses at all college levels in the U.S. Although this problem is more serious in small liberal-arts colleges, state universities also have the same problem especially in their advanced Japanese courses. If we think about the prevalence of Japanese popular cultural products such as anime, manga, music, games, V-tubers, and traditional artifacts among college students in the United States, we cannot easily understand why the number of students who learn Japanese has been decreasing in many institutions.

William H. Gass at 100: Essays

The year 2024 will mark the centenary of William H. Gass (1924-2017), and a collection of essays examining the work of the influential author and educator will be published by Twelve Winters Press, edited by long-time Gass scholar Ted Morrissey. Gass -- who was born in Fargo, ND, grew up in Ohio, and taught primarily at Purdue University and Washington University in St. Louis, home of the William H. Gass papers -- is perhaps best known for his massive and controversial novel The Tunnel (1995), famously 26 years in the writing and winner of the American Book Award (1996).

The editors of this important volume are putting together a collection of essays on Dark (2017-2020) for publication which is currently entitled Dark Reflections. Created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, Netflix's groundbreaking German original series, Dark, premiered in 2017, and spanned three thought-provoking seasons. Set in the small town of Winden, the series revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a child and the subsequent unraveling of family secrets spanning several generations. As the story unfolds, intricate time loops and paradoxes emerge, propelling the characters into a tangled web of interconnected destinies.
