WORD AND IMAGE (ASECS, March 30-April 2, 2006)

This panel seeks to investigate the interaction between verbal and visual
languages in the art and literature of eighteenth-century Europe. Approaches
may draw upon such diverse fields as art history and image theory, cultural
studies, literary theory, visual semiotics, book history and print culture.
Some possible topics include: portraits in the text, engraving, illustrated
narratives and cartography, verbal description, and film adaptations of
eighteenth-century works. The objective is to engage in a stimulating dialogue
on the mutual collaboration of these two very rich forms of expression.

dedicate a special issue to questions of aesthetics in Buffy and Angel. =
Papers of between 4,000 - 6,000 words are sought on any area of =

We invite submissions for a critical anthology about the ever-expanding =
world of national and international trash cinema.

As fans of trash cinema, while we do like to think of the form as being =
utterly anti- or counter- =93mainstream=94 cinema, in the ways it =
challenges or reworks many of its assumptions, we are amazed at how many =
trash favorites (both personal and more perennial, if such a thing =
exists) have a striking formal similarity to =96 as well as an appeal =
for devotees of =96 the traditional film canon=92s fare.

expressions that constitute the foundation of new media as a field of study.
If the current lexical profusion (new media, multimedia, digital media,
interactive media, etc.) attests to the diversity of possible approaches
when faced with combinations of information technology and arts such as
literature, cinema and other hybrid forms, what critical point of view are

Looking Backwards: Re-reading Hollywood's Queer Images, 1969 – 1985
