Call for Paper Proposals
Panel Theme: "Chick" Media Narratives

In the post-"Buffy," "Sex and the City" era in which male
arrested-development comedies dominate the film box-office, this panel
will discuss the significance of, and issues explored by, contemporary
media narratives (film, television, the internet and/or literature)
that are either female-centered and/or female-oriented.

What are the similarities/differences between these influential
aforementioned texts and more contemporary texts? What types of
messages do these narratives transmit about the position of
contemporary women with regard to career, love, marriage, friendship,
domesticity, and motherhood? What type of female
spectatorship/readership do they elicit? What role does politics
(feminism, post-feminism) play in these narratives? What role do women
play (if any) in their production?

Special consideration will be given to papers that address trans-media issues.
