"Reinventing Paulo Freire"

Paulo Freire Institute
University of California Los Angeles
Graduate School of Education and Information Studies

Proposals are invited for a unique essay contest sponsored by the Paulo
Freire Institute, UCLA. The theme is "reinventing Paulo Freire."

Rather than asking solely for traditional academic paper, we also seek
creative, innovative and inspirational ideas on how his work can be
translated, reinterpreted or reinvented in any contemporary setting. We thus
accept work from inside or outside the university, from researchers,
scholars, artists, teachers, activists or students of any age. We are
particularly interested in how Freire's work can be used in contemporary
projects for democratization and social justice.

We welcome essays of up to 15-pages, one act plays, multimedia
presentations, poems or movie shorts (no more than 30 minutes in length).
Proposals should include your name, organization/affiliation, title, email,
phone number and address.

Submissions should be emailed by April 1, 2007 to rjv_at_ucla.edu

or sent via regular mail to:

contribution to the continuation of Freire's work. Winners will be rewarded
as follows: 1st prize: $500, 2nd prize: $300, 3rd prize: $200, in addition
to being invited to an awards ceremony at UCLA in the Spring of 2007.
Selected works will be offered publication in a special issue of the Freire
Online Journal (www.paulofreireinstitute.org
<http://www.paulofreireinstitute.org/> ). All decisions are final and cannot
be appealed.
