‘The story does what no theorem can quite do. It may not be like ‘real
life’ in the superficial sense: but it sets before us an image of what
reality may well be like at some more central region.’

- C. S. Lewis, On Stories

C. S. Lewis is renowned the world over for his startling array of works,
ranging from theology to literary criticism and to fiction as diverse as
The Cosmic Trilogy or The Chronicles of Narnia. Perhaps chief among the
facets that draw readers to his works is his capacity to imagine â€" and
envision â€" other worlds, and through them to put reality back in touch
with the fullness of ‘imaginative life’.

This volume will be dedicated to exploring C. S. Lewis’ approach to the
imaginative world throughout his many works. Possible avenues for papers
could include the evolution of the concept of the imaginative world, its
scope and success in Lewis’ writings, the relationships between Lewis’
works and those of other writers (such as the Inklings), analysis of
Lewis’ works as literature of ‘place’, and how rendition of his worlds
and stories in different media affects his vision.

This volume will represent Portal Editions’ first English language volume
for the Explorations collection, which aims to give readers a better
understanding of the lives and works of the foremost authors of
imaginative literature.

About PortalEditions:

Portal Editions was founded in 2008 with the aim of offering readers a
gateway to the artistic universes of the best writers of imaginative
literature. We firmly believe that good imaginative art, however
unfamiliar its settings, is far from being escapist; rather, it has a
unique potential to teach us about our own world. In this sense, our
publications are meant to be gateways to places that will not only
stimulate our imagination, but also give us new perspectives to help us
face the intellectual, artistic, spiritual and social challenges posed by
today’s world.

Portal Editions welcomes proposals and suggestions. Please look at our
website for further information and to contact us:
