Focus:
This issue seeks articles addressing and exploring issues surrounding the integration of novels into classroom practice and employing novels to meet course and program objectives. Manuscripts from the fields of literary studies and creative writing are welcome, as are submissions from other disciplines that employ the novel, including cultural studies, gender studies, women's studies, African American studies, and composition. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

• theory and the classroom
• the novel and activism
• the political novel
• discussions of the balance between contextualization and close reading
• popular fiction versus literary fiction in the classroom
• innovative pedagogical practices

Who May Submit:
Instructors are invited to share their experiences and strategies for teaching novels and short fiction at the high school, community college, or university level. Manuscripts are particularly sought from instructors who have developed new and meaningful ways to teach reading and/or writing prose fiction, whether in the traditional classroom, through on-line courses, or with a combination of class meetings and web-based work.
