I am seeking one paper to complete a panel proposal for the 2012 meeting of C19: The Society of Nineteenth-Century Americanists.

This panel will offer new readings of kinship, the family, and affiliation in nineteenth-century literature, including representations of kinship under slavery, anti-familialism, the politics of similitude and difference, the usefulness of paradigms of "alternative" kinship, and the familial idiom of nationalism. Studies of sentimentalism and African American literature have been particularly fruitful in this field in the past; we welcome papers that revisit the scholarly works that established these critical paradigms and also those that take up the study of affiliation in lesser known nineteenth-century texts, genres, discourses, and histories.

Please email the title of your proposed paper, a one-paragraph abstract, and your cv by September 12.
