Call for Papers: Early Modern Ecostudies

Scholarship in the past ten years has drawn much needed attention to the
relationship between literature and the environment. Much of that research,
however, continues to privilege certain periods, namely romanticism and the
twentieth century, and certain places, mainly North American and England.
This volume seeks to address that oversight by examining constructions of
the natural and non-human in the early modern world (to 1700). We welcome
all essays that offer ecocritical readings of early modern texts and
contexts; we also, however, welcome in particular essays that theorize
and/or examine the current emphasis in ecocriticism and ecostudies on
nineteenth century American literature and culture and/or focus on
connections between literature, culture, history and the environment of
geographies beyond England and America in the early modern world.

Please submit abstracts or completed essays to Karen Raber
(kraber_at_olemiss.edu), Tom Hallock (thallock_at_olemiss.edu), or Ivo Kamps
(egkamps_at_olemiss.edu), Department of English, University of Mississippi,
University, MS 38677.

Deadline for submission: March 15, 2006.
