       Further elaboration of this panel: The Oldest Profession: The Whys
and Wherefores for the continued fascination of this subject in Literature,
Drama, & Film. For example: O'Neill's Anna Christie, Dostoyevsky's Crime
and Punishment & Notes from Underground,Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession,
Fellini's Nights of Cabiria, Scorcese's Taxi Driver, Jeanne Moreau in
Losey's Eve, Marlene Dietrich in von Sternberg's The Blue Angel, Ingrid
Bergman in Hitchcock's Notorious, and (of course) Louise Brooks as Lulu in
 Pabst's Pandora's Box. But others too: individually or in aggregate.
       All perspectives welcome: Mythic, dramatic, musical,
psycho-analytic, feminist, biographical or autobiographical, personal
response -- not excluding that of Jack the Ripper.
       To foster discussion, accepted panelists must keep strictly to
15-minute presentations, but finished papers should be brought. Please
submit a 200-350 abstract with brief Currculum Vita via eMail to each of
the above co-Chairmen by 9/25/07, preferably earlier.
