From material to immaterial, the archive serves as an interface between past and future knowledge. In this relationship, the archive is both a method and a space of theory and politics. As the production and exchange of information continue to expand at exponential rates, understanding the role of the archive in the storage, accessibility, and legacy of this information becomes increasingly necessary. Already this call has joined the digital archives of inboxes, servers, and hard drives, underscoring the prevalence of archives in everyday life. The study of the production of knowledge necessitates an interrogation of the contemporary state of the archive.

Dash, Cal State Fullerton's annual literary journal, seeks submissions for its 2012 issue. It is our mission to publish works of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, criticism, and art (as well as hybrid texts) that push the boundaries of short, emphatic expression. We aim to communicate more with less. Waste not, want not. Submit.

NB: DASH is a student-produced journal that emphasizes artistic and editorial integrity throughout the production process. All entries are 100% blind, peer-reviewed (No favors for friends).

Boundaries (push at your own risk):

Poems: 
33 lines or fewer. Submit up to 5.

Fiction, Nonfiction, Criticism:
 2012 words or fewer, double-spaced.
 Limit: 1 submission per category.

Detroit is at once an apocalyptic city and a Renaissance city. Over the past ten years, Detroit has suffered immensely, especially during the economic downturn and the virtual demise of the auto industry. Its apocalyptic landscape of abandoned buildings, its negative image due to high crime rates, a recently impeached corrupt Mayor, Kwame Kilpartick, and the loss of close to 300,000 people in the last census have made it the symbol of a city with a hopeless future. However, there is hope as the so called Renaissance city of the 1970s may now be experiencing a true Renaissance.

The Law Society invites papers from academics for a conference on the relationship between academic research and policy development and law reform.

LJ Jackson's review of civil costs and the ensuing legislative process to enact his recommendations highlights the importance of, and necessity for, academics and their research in the development of policy and law reform. The requirement in the 2014 REF exercise to demonstrate the impact of research provides a strong impetus for the relationship between research and law reform and policy to be explored and invigorated.

This conference aims to provide a unique opportunity to do that by bringing together academics, parliamentarians, civil servants, judges and other users of research.
