Join us in Las Vegas this October, where we will defy the odds and time, and you can learn how to read some of the 418 (and counting) letter runes found in the first third of Beowulf.
This groundbreaking, ninety-minute session is the first of its kind in teaching how one can detect and decipher between two alphabets that use the same letters, with one being just a letter and the other being a letter that represents a word. Unlike Odin, you will not have to give up an eye.
All attendees will receive a letter rune chart.
This panel at the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA), 6-9 March 2025, will focus what T. S. Eliot can do for the Humanities today and what the Humanities ought to do with T. S. Eliot.

The notion of ‘haunting’ connotes windswept houses tormented by ghosts and specters, forging a connection between an unresolved past, the troubled present, and imagined futures. With Derrida’s coinage of the French neologism l’hantologie (hauntology), the figure of the specter became a byword for the “disjunction in the presence of being” (Goellner 5), pointing to the conflicting connection between the present and the past. Indeed, “[i]nstead of demanding a distancing, the twists and turns of haunting manifest as a thinking against or after” (Blanco and Peeren 32).
