TROPIC OF CANCER FOR A SPECIAL ISSUE OF A NEW JOURNAL
DEDICATED TO HENRY MILLER. ALL WORK WILL BE REQUIRED
TO BE OF THE HIGHEST STANDARDS BUT WILL NOT
NECESSARILY BE LIMITED TO ACADEMIC STUDIES PER SE.
DELIBERATELY OBSCURE WORK IS NOT SOUGHT. THE OBJECTIVE

CALL FOR PAPERS

The editors of the SOUTHERN LITERARY JOURNAL invite submissions for a
special issue focusing on southern autobiography--black or white, male or
female, classic or contemporary--and the autobiographical impulse (as
manifested in fiction as well as autobiography and memoir) endemic to
southern authorship. Articles emphasizing new approaches, new readings, or
previously neglected authors and works are particularly desired.

As electronic media and software increasingly influence the ways in which
writing is done, taught, and published, new issues arise for writing in
this environment; therefore, Issues in Writing, a refereed journal, is
seeking submissions for a special issue exploring the implications of the
current trends in electronic writing.

The AnaChronisT welcomes submissions by graduate students as well as =

Articles are invited that consider the relations between psychology and
the political with particular respect to the interconnection between
psychology and contemporary liberal geoculture. We seek contributions
which attempt to address the question of post-liberal forms of social
organization and the role of psychology, if any, in these. Please
consider that the space in the special issue is limited. Deadline for
submissions is August 31, 2003.

Victorian "Freaks"
A Collection of Essays

The Nineteenth-Century is noted for its strict notions of the normative and its
anxieties about difference. "Freaks" and various kinds of freak shows
proliferated in this climate. Not only is freakishness associated with what
seems odd or fanciful, but also with a "turn of the mind," rebellion, or
critique. This collection aims to explore various disruptions caused by or
creating "freakishness" as it relates to social issues and social change.

Misogynism in Literature. Essays are invited for a book tentatively entitled
Misogynism in Literature: Or, On Disliking Certain 'Masterpieces'. If you
have had enough of the male 'masterpieces' we were supposed to 'enjoy'
despite their misogynism, if you have doubts about such controversial
concepts as 'universality,' 'timelessness' or great texts' alleged androgyny,
then you may want to contribute an essay that focuses on one specific work of
literature by a canonical author of any time and nationality. Send a 2-page
abstract and brief vita or inquiries to Britta Zangen, Cranachstr. 4, 40235

CALL FOR PAPERS
Studies in American Jewish Literature
Deadline: June 1, 2003

The journal, _Studies in American Jewish Literature_, is interested in
publishing a special issue devoted to the writings of Philip Roth.
Topic areas concerning Roth's writings (fiction as well as non-fiction)
are open, but essays that focus on Roth, Jewish ethnicity, and issues of
postmodernity are particularly welcome. Length of essays should be
5000-7000 words.

The volume number for the special issue has yet to be determined.
