TRANSLATION AND 'THE CLASSIC': Call for papers for a book to be published in 2005 edited by Alexandra Lianeri and Vanda Zajko.

The recent growth of interest in translation studies and classical
reception has led to greater attention being paid to the question of
translation. Yet no work has yet focused on the implications of translation for the definition and evaluation of 'the classic'. In this volume we seek to explore this subject from a number of perspectives by bringing together scholars from classics, translation studies, literary theory and philosophy. TOPIC, the annual of Washington and Jefferson College, is soliciting
original critical essays for the Fall 2004 issue on J. K. Rowling's Harry
Potter novels.

We are particularly interested in essays that (1) discuss her most recent
volume, HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, (2) analyze the film
adaptations of the novels, and (3) study the impact of Rowling's books on
writing for children (and perhaps even writing by children).

All essays will be subject to review by the seven members of the editorial
board. They should be well researched, carefully documented, and
intelligible to those in other disciplines.
